What is a Biometric Recognition?
Today, we'll briefly introduce what biometrics is and what its advantages are.
First, biometrics is a technology that authenticates an individual by measuring and statistically analyzing their unique physiological or behavioral characteristics. Common biometric methods include fingerprint recognition, palm print recognition, finger vein recognition, palm vein recognition, facial recognition, and iris recognition. Currently, fingerprint recognition has a relatively high adoption rate, but its many drawbacks are also becoming apparent, especially its low success rate and susceptibility to interference, which are particularly evident in many everyday fingerprint applications.

Finger vein recognition and palm vein recognition technologies are similar.
Both finger vein recognition and palm vein recognition utilize near-infrared light to penetrate the finger or palm, where it is absorbed by the hemoglobin inside, forming a shadow that outlines the distribution of veins within the finger or palm. Veins are located beneath the skin, and the vein network in each finger is unique to each person. However, the palm contains a much larger network of veins. Palm veins have a richer network and more feature information.
Then, algorithms are used to process the acquired images, extracting vein network feature points for comparison.
Vein recognition is almost unaffected by the condition of the finger's surface skin (e.g., dryness, peeling, superficial injuries). Furthermore, vein recognition offers extremely high security because veins are internal features and cannot be copied from surface fingerprints, making them extremely difficult to forge. It requires a living finger or palm with flowing blood for recognition.
Compared to finger vein recognition, the palm vein network is more complex, theoretically offering higher uniqueness and recognition accuracy. Moreover, palm vein recognition is non-contact, typically requiring only 7-14cm of the palm in the air for scanning, making it more natural and hygienic.



Typical applications of finger vein recognition include high-security access control and safes, bank vaults and ATMs, secure login for high-end laptops, access to confidential data, and social security identity authentication. Palm vein recognition is primarily used in high-security institutions such as banks for access control, data center entrances and exits, smart campus/smart park access, and some high-end payment scenarios (e.g., palm payment).

Face Recognition
Face recognition captures facial images or video streams through a camera, uses algorithms to extract facial features (such as the relative positions and contours of the eyes, nose, and mouth), and generates a unique digital feature code, which is then compared with pre-stored templates in a database.
Face recognition requires locating the face in the image and extracting key, stable features. Then, technologies such as 3D structured light and infrared imaging are used to determine if it is a real person (preventing attacks using photos, videos, and masks).
Therefore, face recognition is natural and non-contact, offering a good user experience and fast recognition speed, suitable for rapid screening of large groups. However, it is very susceptible to environmental factors, such as lighting, angle, and obstructions (masks, glasses), which can affect accuracy. Furthermore, there is a privacy risk associated with remote, undetectable data collection.
Typical application scenarios include phone unlocking, mobile payment, access control and attendance, public security monitoring, and airport self-service clearance.
